Dryer fires cause so many deaths, injuries and property damage. The numbers are shocking as they indicate over $75 Million in property damage in 2019! One reason for the increase in dryer fires is that dryers were originally designed to be installed near an outside wall of the home with a very short duct. Newer homes built in the 90’s or later were designed to allow more conveniently located laundry facilities upstairs, near bedrooms where the most laundry is created. This requires much longer dryer ducts which make the dryer to work harder to expel hot air and moisture from laundry. It also allows for more lint accumulation to block airflow and cause overheating.
